The Indoor Foliage Capital of the World

Apopka's nickname comes from its many greenhouse nurseries. The Seminole name for the area, Ahapopka, roughly means "potato-eating place." A Masonic lodge was established here in 1857, the Town of Apopka City incorporated in 1882, and the City of Apopka in 1919.

The city had 54,873 residents in 2020, and the Census Bureau estimates 65,552 for 2025. AdventHealth Apopka opened in 2017 to serve that growth.
